Our elders are currently reading through Dr. Schreiner’s book The King In His Beauty: A Biblical Theology of the Old and New Testaments, which has served for great discussion and personal edification (that’s the plug for you to go purchase the book!). In my study of Scriptures, in particular the Gospels, there are few accounts…
Busyness is an issue that is ever-present in my life. I don’t say that to boast. In fact, many times my busyness is attributed to the lack of stewardship of time in my life, as well as a neglect of more important matters in favor of less important matters. Busyness happens. But how do you…
And this short little post was really helpful and thought-provoking regarding whether or not to share/publicize the sins of my kids. Another issue that creates a lot of discussion is whether or not parents should require obedience from their children – here’s a good word on that issue. Enjoy.
The Scriptures exhort Christians to be watchful because the Devil prowls around the world looking for whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). Thus, accountability is a crucial part of a Christian’s life. Here is an abbreviated version of John Wesley’s famous accountability question that I came across in Jared Wilson’s book The Pastor’s Justification: Applying…
Accountability is a word that isn’t specifically mentioned in the Scriptures, though there are a lot of passages that speak to exhorting and confronting one another in truth. He recommends the following list: Spiritual maturity sufficient enough to lead a wife and children. Personal maturity sufficient enough to be a responsible husband and father.…
What is the goal of biblical counseling? Is it building ego, fostering self-confidence, exploring a person’s inner world and coming to terms with it, becoming better adjusted socially, getting in touch with inner divine energies, becoming happy or fulfilled, etc.? I believe that the goal of counseling is precisely what Paul lays forth in Colossians…
Once again, the title of this post is from Jared Wilson’s latest book The Pastor’s Justification: Applying The Work Of Christ In Your Life And Ministry. I resonated with many truths Wilson shared in his book and several were painful to admit. His words on biblical shepherding compared to often domineering shepherding that goes on…
The title of this post is just one among many sentences I underlined in reading Jared Wilson’s The Pastor’s Justification and as I’ve tweeted several times, I was greatly refreshed and challenged. If you’re in pastoral ministry I would encourage you to have his book on your shelf. The book has two parts. In Part…
There are a lot of great things happening at Oak Park. One of those great things is our weekly investment in the Jeffersonville High School Football Team. Several years ago a friend of mine named Chris Morgan, who works with FCA of Louisville, approached me and wanted to know if we would be willing to…
