Be radically committed to both truth and love

Meaning of Marriage

In reading Tim Keller’s The Meaning of Marriage I came across two truths regarding how God relates to us that I wanted to pass along. First, God exemplifies radical truthfulness about who we are. The second is God exemplifies radical, unconditional commitment to us. These two truths should not only encourage us as we ponder how God views and responds to us but they should also guide us in our relationships with other people.

Keller writes, that love without truth is sentimentality; it supports and affirms us but keeps us in denial about our flaws, mistakes, and even sins. On the flip side, truth without love is harshness; it gives us information but in such a way that we cannot really hear it. Seek to be a person who strikes a balance between radically truthful while doing so within a framework of radical commitment.
