On January 21, 2018, Dr. Lawless preached Luke 22:39-46 at Foothills Baptist Church. He gave four points:

  1. If we follow Jesus, then prayer should be in our DNA. If we don’t pray, we lack integrity in carrying the name of Christ. Our Lord prayed on a regular/consistent basis.
  2. We need to pray proactively about temptation. In verses 40 and 46 we see Jesus say to His disciples, “pray that you do not fall into temptation.” When we don’t pray against temptation, defeat should not surprise us. Conversely, if we pray reactively, we let the Devil set our prayer agenda. We must be proactive in fighting sin with prayer.
  3. We must trust God in prayer, even through the toughest times of our lives. In our most agonizing moments, we must run to God, not from God.
  4. We must long to talk with the One who prays for us every day. Hebrews 7 and Romans 8 explain that our Lord prays for us even when we are not faithful to do so.
