This is a great post by Justin Taylor recounting Gerald Bray’s (professor from Beeson Divinity School at Samford University) advice on what questions an individual should ask when seeking to interpret Scripture. It was very helpful to me as I’m studying week-in-and-week-out to deliver a word from the Lord. In addition, he also takes a difficult passage (genealogies from I Chronicles) and answers (albeit briefly)…
Let me preface the following post with the fact that I’m desperately trying to be the Christian, husband and father that God wants me to be and I fall short daily. God’s ideal should always be my ideal. I’ve only been a parent for a short time, but in that short time I’ve realized overwhelmingly…
I was perusing a bookstore the other day and came across a book entitled “Ten Stupid Things That Keep Churches From Growing – How Leaders Can Overcome Costly Mistakes.” I wasn’t planning on buying it, but several of the chapter titles really jumped out at me and I decided to buy it – and I’m thankful I did. …
I’m currently rereading C. J. Mahaney’s book Humility: True Greatness because I’m a proud man and through the grace of Christ I want to crush my pride and manifest humility in my life. Just recently I have had several incredible opportunities to exemplify humility, but instead chose to exemplify pride, which made me realize that I…
It’s been my desire as a fairly new parent (my wife and I have a beautiful 11 month old daughter named Lucianne and another one on the way!) to read as many books on biblical-based parenting as I can, as well as engage in conversations with parents who are currently raising children who are walking…
Recently, I finished C. J. Mahaney’s book “Humility – True Greatness.” It’s a short book and one that most individuals could knock out in a couple hours. However, the premise of the book – true greatness in God’s eyes is reserved for those who are humble in spirit – is one that an individual will…
In my short time as a pastor working with middle, high school, and college students, as well as adults (both young and old) the issue of pornography has been the subject of a multitude of breakfast and lunch appointments and phone calls with men in the church and those outside. Interestingly enough, several of my unbelieving…
Justin Taylor’s blog is becoming a daily read for me. To say that his blog is a great source of encouragement would be an understatement. Hopefully, my family and I will soon be transitioning into a Senior Pastor position. With that transition quickly approaching, I’m trying to read anything and listen to anyone who might offer…
Mike Calhoun, who works for Word of Life Ministries, gives some practical and very helpful advice on spiritually leading your family. As a father who deeply desires to put into practice my Christian faith first and foremost in the home, I’m always willing and ready to listen to anyone who has any insight on how to…
This is a short, but great little post by Justin Taylor where he cites three prominent Christians and why they make a habit or writing out their thoughts. In my “about me” section I make a similar case as to why I write – but in a much less articulate and eloquent manner!
