Loving your community

This week our church (Oak Park Baptist in Jeffersonville, IN) hosted a group of 65 students and adults from Westwood Baptist in Alabaster, AL.  Throughout their week here they’re canvassing 4,000+ homes, doing some projects for the local high school and planting 65 trees and a 150 shrubs throughout an intersection that has been a bit of an eye-sore over the years.  My brother, Micah Millican, is the Student Pastor at Westwood and is leading the team this week.

Jonathon Woodyard, Oak Park’s Family Pastor is spearheading the logistics for the week (point-man) and is doing an awesome job.  What’s encouraging is the City of Jeffersonville is backing our projects and when I mean backing I mean police barricades so we can do work on a busy intersection, tilling all of the beds to get them ready for our team, giving upwards of $15,000 for materials for the beautification project and all sorts of details that have occurred behind the scenes that we don’t know about.

Here’s a link to our team and their projects that was in the Courier-Journal (front-page of the Indiana section) – http://www.courier-journal.com/article/20110314/NEWS02/303140101/Alabama-youths-help-beautify-Jeffersonville?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|Home

Enjoy and go love your community.
