Taken from Mark Dever’s book The Message of the New Testament:
Acquiring things is a slippery slope. The more you get, the more you want. The more you want, the more dissatisfied you feel when you can’t get it. Money and work expose the depths of our depravity. Like relationships, work and money satisfy us initially but then leave us disillusioned, hungry for what no person or object can give us. Money are work are like a cleansing that bring up all the ill inside of us, leaving us hungry for good food—a food that money and work can’t possibly provide — Tremper Longman/Dan Allender in Bold Purpose
